Hi, I’m Martha Henri, founder of Nanaberries Creative Studio.

Nanaberries grew from different pieces of my life that I never expected would one day come together — gymnastics, sewing, teaching, and my daughter, Gianna.

Growing up in Mexico, I loved dance and gymnastics. By age 13, I had already begun choreographing routines for children between the ages of 5 and 9. For several years, I regularly prepared new pieces for the children to perform on the local TV show Sábados de Carrusel, often having a new routine ready almost every Saturday. I continued choreographing and preparing the children for the show until I was about 16, when I moved to the United States.

I also enjoyed teaching my classmates basic gymnastics skills for school events. Even then, working with children and helping them learn came naturally to me.

Sewing entered my life completely by accident. In middle school, I had the opportunity to choose an elective class, and I wanted to take typing. Unfortunately, the class was full, so I ended up in sewing instead. I wasn’t very excited about it at the time, but little did I know that what I learned in that class would one day help open the door to my own business.

Years later, when Gianna began rhythmic gymnastics, I started designing and sewing custom competition leotards and apparel — and that became the beginning of Nanaberries.

As I became more involved in rhythmic gymnastics, I returned to coaching, working with programs in San Jose and Tracy, CA. That experience reminded me how much I loved not only the sport, but also teaching children and watching their confidence grow as they master something new.

Today, Nanaberries has grown into Nanaberries Creative Studio, bringing together so many of the things that have shaped my life — rhythmic gymnastics, sewing, Spanish, creativity, and education.

Gianna has remained an important part of the Nanaberries story. She has dedicated more than seven years to this beautiful sport, she is now an FIG rhythmic gymnast and competes through USA Gymnastics. Her years in the sport have given her firsthand experience with the discipline, commitment, and confidence gymnastics develops. She has also learned to sew and is preparing to become a coach and eventually a judge, making her not only the inspiration behind Nanaberries, but also part of its next generation.

What began with a few unexpected experiences in my own childhood has become a place where children can discover their talents, build confidence, learn new skills, and find something they truly love.
